Kells a Wash Out in Everyway (18
July 10) |
It was a very quick turnaround
for Kells and after a disastrous Southern
100 there was a lot of work to do, fortunately
it was only a reed broke on the 250 Honda
and not the expected seizure so it was
fixed, but the Strangford Holiday Park
Suzuki needed a change of engine after
a gearbox failure and so the CSC Branson
Supersock R1 Yamaha was loaded up to allow
Davy to ride in Open Races.
Arriving at the paddock really late on
Friday due to problems from Southern and
we just about got a spot to park right
at the bottom of the paddock. It was then
a bit of scrounging as the steering damper
had broke on the CSC Branson R1 at the
TT and there is no way you could ride
Kells without one so thanks to Brian McCormack
and Ryan Farquhar who lent us the parts
needed to get us on track.
Practice didn't start particularly well
with a dissappointing 14th place in the
Open Class session with Davy just not
happy on the R1 over the jumps. Next was
the 250cc Junior Session and this went
much better, claiming his first Pole of
the season about 1/4 second ahead of the
in-form William Dunlop. Finally it was
the CSC Branson R6 and in a really competitive
field Davy qualified 10th only 1.4 seconds
off second and on the first row of the
second group with Archibald and Walsh.
Rain greeted the riders on Sunday morning
and the organisers managed to get three
races run, before conditions worsened
and they had no choice other than to abandon
the meeting iwthou Davy getting a wheel
turned so it was a case of packing up
and heading home on a disappointing weekend.
Davy commented, "Its been a
bad weekend for our sport and i don't
have much to say other than offering my
condolences to the family and friends
of Stephen Larkin who died after an accident
in practice." |
